Kishan Raps Police for Lathi-Charge On BJP Activists in Nirmal

HYDERABAD: State BJP chief G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday accused the Telangana police of supporting the ruling BRS, over an alleged assault of BJP activists for staging a protest against changing the Sofinagar industrial area into a residential zone in the new master plan of Nirmal.

The Union minister said that people would teach a bitter lesson to the ruling BRS in the ensuing Assembly elections and the BJP would come to power.

Addressing mediapersons at the BJP office in Nampally here on Sunday, Kishan Reddy found fault with the Telangana police for taking into custody several BJP senior leaders and resorting to lathi-charge on BJP activists in Nirmal. “As many as 30 BJP activists suffered serious head injuries and a number of women were physically assaulted by Telangana police at Nirmal during the protest,” he said.

“We condemned the police lathi-charge on BJP activists and leaders in Nirmal. BJP national vice president D.K. Aruna, who was proceeding to Nirmal to extend her solidarity to former BJP MLA Aleti Maheswar Reddy's protest against changing Nirmal’s master plan, was detained by the police in Nizamabad and forcibly taken to Adilabad,” Kishan Reddy said.

“BRS MLAs and leaders indulged in irregularities at different places… trying to change the master plan. When residents and farmers staged protests, the BJP extended support for protest against the BRS policies in Nirmal,” he said.

Accusing the police of taking the law into their hands, Kishan Reddy said: “The police violated rules by taking the law into their hands and harassing innocent people. The LB Nagar police resorted to third-degree methods on a tribal woman, keeping her inside a police station at night. The government introduced the Dharani portal and looted hundreds of acres from farmers. The Chief Minister focussed on the government's valuable land parcels and put on sale for private persons and corporate companies.”

Kishan Reddy asked the police why their personnel at Suryapet created hurdles for regular commuters by diverting traffic due to Chief Minister's visit. “I am telling police that the Kalvakuntla family will be in ruling only for four months. After four months, Praja Rajyam will come to power in Telangana,” Kishan Reddy said.
