YSRC bags majority in Nellore and Prakasam
NELLORE: It was a clean sweep for YSR Congress in the ZPTC elections in Nellore and Prakasam districts.
The party bagged all the 46 ZPTC seats in Nellore district and 55 seats out of 56 in Prakasam district much to the delight of the party leaders. Election was not held for one seat in Prakasam.
In the case of MPTCs, YSR Congress bagged 500 seats of 554 while 31 went to TD, three to CPI, two to BJP, and one seat to JSP while independents bagged 13 seats in Nellore district. Election was not held for four seats due to various reasons.
With respect to 784 MPTC seats in Prakasam, election was withheld for 68 seats and 348 were unanimous. Among the unanimous verdicts, YSRC bagged 318 seats, while 25 seats were won by TD and five by independents.
Elections were held for 368 seats and YSR Congress won 311 of them while TD secured 39 seats, one each was won by CPI, CPM and BJP and 15 seats were clinched by independents.
YSR Congress leaders and cadre are on cloud nine following the resounding victory.
Meanwhile, 4,979 officials participated in the counting process in Nellore district where the process was observed through webcasting using 70 cameras. Nearly 1,200 policemen were on security at the counting centres.
In Prakasam district, counting was held in 12 centres across the district.
