HYDERABAD: BRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Friday predicted a sweep for the party in the November 30 Assembly elections, declaring that it would complete a hat-trick with 95-105 seats.
Rao, addressing party leaders and workers from Gajwel at the event at a private function hall in Shamirpet, said the state had notched up several achievements so far, but there was much more to be done. “The quest for excellence in an unending process,” he said, explaining that the state was now poised for take off and the hard work that led to formation of Telangana and its development can continue only if the BRS retains power a historic third time.
He said his Gajwel constituency has witnessed a lot of development but more was needed to be done. “We should not be satisfied with what has been done but do more. It is not just enough if we win from Gajwel, you should also ensure that BRS candidates win from three or four constituencies surrounding Gajwel,,” he said.
He noted that the BRS had solved the state’s power and drinking water problems, and is completing work related to some irrigation projects. “There is more work to be done on basic infrastructure, more houses to be built for the homeless. And to do all of these and more, BRS should win again.”
“I launched the movement for Telangana as the then rulers ignored the region. I questioned the Chief Ministers then if Telangana should not have enough power, get industries, and if farmers should continue suffering. I questioned this attitude. It was this neglect that made it imperative for us to have our own state and develop it,” he said.
He listed the construction of the Kondapochamma and Mallannasagar reservoirs and acknowledged the project oustees. “I am aware of the issues relating to those who gave up their land for these projects and I salute to them for their sacrifices for the good of the state. In the next term, I will spend one day a month in the constituency and solve all your issues.”
Referring to questions about his contesting from a second constituency, Kamareddy, Rao said: “There is a reason why I am contesting from Kamareddy, but I assure you I will not be leaving Gajwel. With what majority you will elect me again from here is up to you. It is my responsibility to turn Gajwel into the crowning glory of the state,” he said.
Minister T. Harish Rao, Gajwel party in-charge, said “your enthusiasm shows that you are all set to create a new history. The development in Gajwel has made it a role model and people from all parts of the country come here to see the development.”
