Hyderabad: Gaining a whopping 11 percentage points so far in vote share, 40 days ahead of the November 30 elections, the Congress has surged to become the party with the highest number of votes, according to a survey by a national TV channel in partnership with a survey agency.
The survey projected that the BRS would lose nine percentage points of its vote and end up in the second position, with the BJP and MIM following at third and fourth.
Making these changes possible, according to the survey, was a drop of 9 percentage points of the BRS vote share with the party projected to get 38 per cent of the votes compared to 47 per cent in the 2018 elections.
On the other hand, the Congress which polled 28 per cent of the votes in 2018 is expected to get 38 per cent of the vote share this year, even as BJP is expected to increase its share from 7 per cent to 18 per cent.
The rest of the parties, the ‘others’ that include the AIMIM, are expected to see a fall in their vote share from 18 per cent in 2018 to 7 per cent in these elections.
However, the Congress is not yet above the halfway mark in terms of seats and, as per the survey, Telangana might be headed for a hung Assembly.
According to the India Today-CVoter survey, no single party would get the required 60 seats in the 119 seat Telangana Legislative Assembly, if elections were held now.
Congress was likely to emerge the single largest party with 54 seats, followed by the BRS with 49 and the BJP coming a distant third with eight seats while ‘others’, that would include AIMIM, and some smaller parties between them, were projected to win another eight seats.
In the 2018 elections, the BRS had 88 seats, followed by the Congress with 19, ‘others’ who got 11 with the BJP bringing up the tail with one seat.
