YSRC cadres confused over candidates, waiting for final decision from high command

Kakinada: The upland area of East Godavari district is known for political strategies. Leaders in the area can change the candidatures at any time and the central leaderships of parties can also change their candidates based on evolving situations.

A similar scenario exists in Prathipadu constituency. Three days ago, the YSRC high command was set to give its green signal to Parvatha Janaki Rani of Sankavaram village in Prathipadu constituency in place of present MLA Parvatha Purnachandra Prasad.

Janaki Rani’s family members started meeting the party cadres and leaders of the constituency. Meanwhile, news is doing rounds that the party might field former MLA Varupula Subba Rao in the constituency.

The followers of Subba Rao are enthused at this and swiftly started the campaign on behalf of Subba Rao. Subba Rao is confident of getting the Prathipadu assembly ticket from the YSRC.

Confusion persists, however. For, chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had already declared the candidature of Dovuluri Dorababu at a public meeting in Samalkot two months ago. The YSRC cadres in Peddapuram are waiting to hear the final word on who the party’s candidate would be in the constituency.

There is palpable lull in the political engagements in the YSRC as the second-rung leaders and cadres are not contacting their MLAs, and the MLAs too are keeping their fingers crossed. These MLAs have stopped their Gadapa Gadapaku programme and are reportedly attempting to try their luck with other parties.
Parvatha Purnachandra Prasad has stopped being in touch with the people in his constituency.

In Jaggampeta, MLA Jyothula Chantibabu made it clear to YSRC high command that he can’t work with former minister Thota Venkata Narasimham. YSRC leaders note that when Chantibabu got the ticket for the 2019 elections, Narasimham fully cooperated with Chantibabu and worked for his victory.

“Now, if Chantibabu really took such a decision, it is wrong,’’ said a mandal leader of the YSRC from the constituency.

Meanwhile, YSRC leader P Babu Rao, a follower of Chantibabu, joined the TD on Wednesday and attended the Yuvagalam pada yatra. However, the party cadres are meeting Narasimham.

Many of the YSRC cadre are not meeting Pithapuram MLA Pendem Dorababu and his camp office wears a deserted look. He stopped to participate in party programmes. The party cadre is confident of Kakinada MP Vanga Githa’s candidature, which was confirmed by the YSRC.

Also, the camp office of BC welfare minister Srinivasa Venu Gopalakrishna at Ramachandrapuram is seeing less activities these days. The second-rung leaders are contacting Pilli Subhashchandra Bose. However, sources said Venu Gopalakrishna will visit Rajamahendravaram Rural constituency on an auspicious day.
