DMK MLAs holding office of profit: Puducherry AIADMK
Puducherry : Puducherry unit of AIADMK on Saturday said it would seek disqualification of ruling Congress and DMK legislators in Puducherry "for holding office of profit," in the lines of New Delhi where 20 Aam Admi Party (AAP) legislators were disqualified by the Election Commission(EC) .
The EC had recommended to President Ram Nath Kovind to disqualify AAP legislators saying that the MLAs, by occupying the post of parliamentary secretaries, held office of profit, and were liable to be disqualified as legislators.
Legislator party leader of AIADMK A. Anbazhagan said that in Puducherry the legislators belonging to the ruling Congress and its ally the DMK are holding 'office of profits' such as chairmen of government-owned undertakings and Parliamentary secretary and the development in New Delhi is applicable here also.
The AIADMK leader said his party would write to EC if ruling government is not ready to reconsider the decision to relieve their legislators from the posts of chairmen and Parliamentary secretary in 15 days.
Lashing out against Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy for associating with Puducherry BJP president V Saminathan on the inauguration of a passport office in Karaikal, Mr Anbazhagan alleged that the Chief Minister had totally 'surrendered' to BJP for his personal benefits forgetting that he is a Congress leader.
The Chief Minister did not even register his protest against inclusion of the name of BJP president in both the official invitation and plaque of the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in Karaikal, unveiled by external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday, he said.
