Irked by temple songs, Vaiko leaves Vilathikulam in a huff

The MDMK leader said he would henceforth visit only government hospitals for treatment.

Thoothukudi: The MDMK general secretary, Vaiko openly charged the VCK cadres of behaving in an unruly manner, when the cadres of the other five parties in the People’s Welfare Alliance (PWA) were docile and obedient.

Campaigning for TMC candidate, P Kathirvel in Vilathikulam constituency in Thoothukudi district on Wednesday Vaiko refused to speak among the electorate in front of Vilathikulam bus stand unless the devotional songs played at the annual car festival of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple belonging to the Dalit (Devendrakula Velalar) community, were stopped.

The MDMK general secretary, whose demand to stop the songs at the temple festival until he finish his election campaign in the area, was not accepted by the temple authorities, according to whom it was their tradition to play the devotional songs continuously till the temple car come to its position.

Being helpless as his demand was not cared, Vaiko turned his wrath
towards the VCK cadres, who were waving their party flags in front of
his campaign vehicle. In a fit of rage he said, 'Why you VCK cadres are behaving so unruly, when the cadres of the rest of the five parties in the alliance were docile and obedient?” asked Vaiko, adding, he would complain about he matter to VCK boss Thol Thirumavalavan. He then left the spot without addressing the public. Earlier at Puthur village, Vaiko demanded the removal of the DMDK cadres, who were drunk but to no avail.

CM should only use government hospitals
Mr Vaiko said in Thoothukudi that if the PWA alliance was voted to power, the Chief Minister should not go to private hospitals for medical treatment, but only to government hospitals.

The MDMK leader said he would henceforth visit only government hospitals for treatment. Vaiko was also horrified at the prospect campaigning against liquor amid “alcoholics in his party and in the (PWA) alliance.”
