Amit Shah Exhorts BJP Workers to Aim for 150 Seats in MP

Bhopal: Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday dared Congress to come out with the report card of its 53-year-rule in Madhya Pradesh.

Releasing the report card of 20-year-rule of BJP government in Madhya Pradesh from 2003-2023, barring the 15-month-rule of Kamal Nath government, here, Mr Shah said that BJP always believed in accountability which was reflected in the governance given by the party in Madhya Pradesh.

The BJP government which assumed office in Madhya Pradesh in 2003 had inherited the legacy of “BIMARU” (laggard) tag from the previous Congress government.

Madhya Pradesh has witnessed economic transformation during the BJP regime, turning it from a “BIMARU” state to one of the most developed states in the country.

Driving his point home, he said the budget size of the state has grown exponentially from Rs 23, 100 crore in 2002 to Rs 3,14,000 crore in 2024, making the state’s annual budget the second largest one among the states in the country.

The Union minister said that barring five to six years, the Congress ruled the state for 53 years since formation of Madhya Pradesh in 1956.

“I challenge Congress to produce the report card of its 53-year-rule in Madhya Pradesh. The Congress rules in Madhya Pradesh have only earned the state the sobriquet of ‘BIMARU’ state”, Mr Shah said.

He targeted senior Congress leaders and former chief ministers Digvijay Singh and Kamal Nath, saying that the state has suffered a lot during their rule.

He described Mr Singh as ‘Bantadhar’ (destroyer) and said that Madhya Pradesh had lacked basic infrastructures like roads, electricity and drinking water when the latter was chief minister of the state for ten years till 2003.

Mr Shah said that Congress always tried to drag issues like caste, dynasty and appeasement (of minorities) to the forefront during the elections.

But, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started a new tradition of politics of performance. The BJP has fulfilled all its agendas such as abrogation of article 370. Construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya is in progress now.
