How YSR\'s name fits health university, asks Naidu

VISAKHAPATNAM: Former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday questioned how the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy's name fits the NTR Health University that was established in 1986.

In an official statement on the bill to change the name of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences to Dr YSR University of Health Sciences, Naidu noted that the YSRC government passed this in the assembly on Wednesday.

The TD demanded that NTR's name should be retained for the university, he added.

Naidu said NTR established the university with the intention of having a separate head for all medical institutions. After the former CM’s demise in 1998, the then TD government named the university after him.

Naidu said, “No chief minister including the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy wanted to change the name, but Jagan wants this done.”

He said the present government could not establish even a single institution or build a single structure in any part of the state, “but is thinking of changing the names of the established institutions.”

Naidu said the Jagan government doesn't have the funds even to organise the annual convocation of the university.
