Mysuru delegation invites Bommai for Dasara festivities
BENGALURU: A delegation comprising Mysuru Deputy Commissioner Gautham Bagadi and elected representatives on Wednesday invited Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to the 10-day Mysuru Dasara festivities which will be starting on September 26.
The state government has decided to hold Mysore Dasara festivities on a grand scale this year after a gap of two-years of low-key affair. Owing to Covid pandemic, the state government conducted the Mysore Dasara festivities on a low-key note and jumbo savari (elephant march with golden howdah) was confined to Mysore Palace instead of a six-km march from the palace to Bannimantap. The jumbo savari is a major crowd-puller bringing people from far off places.
The jumbo savari, this year, has been restored to its past glory and 14-tamed elephants have been selected to participate in the festivities. The jumbo savari will be held on October 5.
While extending an invitation to the Chief Minister was presented with a shawl and traditional Mysuru peta (turban) by district in-charge and minister for cooperation S.T. Somashekar invited him for the festivities. The Mysuru Dasara festivities will be inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu on September 26 atop Chamundi Hills in Mysuru city.
A series of cultural events have been scheduled at Mysore Palace during the Dasara festivities while wrestling competition, Food Mela, Raitha Dasara among many other events will add up to the festivities. Yuva Dasara (youth Dasara) has already begun in Mysuru city.
In addition, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company (CESC) officials have made arrangements to illuminate the city roads and circles covering a distance of 124-km this year. After, jumbo savari (elephant march for 6-km) from Mysore Palace to Bannimantap, illumination of city roads and circles attracts more crowds during the festivities.
Among the prominent invitees include Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot and Assembly Speaker Visveshwar Hegde Kageri.
