Works left incomplete despite funds: Bandi

HYDERABAD: Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday severely criticised the TRS government and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for continued neglect of the Uppal constituency even as he demanded the immediate release of his party workers from the Goshamahal constituency who he said were illegally picked up by the Task Force unit of the city police.

Addressing a public meeting at Chilukanagar cross roads amidst some rain late in the evening on day eight of the fourth phase of his Praja Sangrama Yatra, he said even light rains were resulting in flooding of the roads in the constituency. TRS leaders who said they adopted the Uppal constituency had disappeared leaving the people to their plight, he said.

Taking aim at the Chief Minister’s family, Sanjay said Chandrashekar Rao’s children who exploited the Telangana sentiment had never cared about the people and were trying to extricate themselves from various scams. He said the government had not completed the Uppal corridor works despite the Centre providing `600 crore for the purpose. “Chandrashekar Rao is diverting all the funds from the Centre for other purposes,” Sanjay said.

He said after failing to serve the people and attend to their problems, the Chief Minister was talking about increasing ST reservations after having been silent on the issue for the past eight years.

On the status of the BJP in the city, Sanjay said despite the best efforts of the Chief Minister, the BJP had increased its strength in the GHMC Council from four to 48 seats. “If all the Hindus in Bhagyanagar unite and form a firm voting block, just imagine what kind of history we can create,” he said.

The youth in Telangana, Sanjay said, should look at what happened in Bihar where AIMIM won five seats. That party is not in power in Maharashtra, Bihar, or Gujarat, and in Rajasthan but it still won seats in all these states. “With 10 per cent of the population in Bihar, the AIMIM managed to consolidate its vote bank to win five seats. Consider what we can do and the number of seats we can win if 80 per cent of people in Telangana, who are Hindus, unite and vote,” he said.

Sanjay assured the people that the BJP will work to ensure that the 7,000 families whose homes are now being claimed to be on Wakf lands in Uppal constituency, can continue their lives. All of them have been paying power bills, followed LRS and BRS regulations. Now the government says these houses are illegal. The BJP will set up a legal team to fight for your rights,” he said.
