Vijayawada: The AP Assembly Session starting on Thursday will see a no-holds-barred fight between the ruling YSRC and the opposition Telugu Desam over the arrest of opposition stalwart N. Chandrababu Naidu while other political issues will also add to the tumult.
Indications are that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy does not want the present session to last for more than a week. The business advisory committee (BAC) meeting on Thursday will finalise the session’s agenda.
The ruling YSRC, led by the Chief Minister, is well-prepared to expose the alleged corruption, wrongdoings, illegalities and atrocities of the previous TD rule. The first day of the Session is likely to be stormy. The TD and the YSRC are going to highlight Naidu’s arrest and the fight between them would continue in the next four to seven days. Issues of law and order, AP’s finances, increase in crimes etc would also be raised by the Opposition.
Shortly after the first session of the Assembly started, Opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu had vowed not to attend the sessions as long as the YSRC rule continued. He was hurt over the alleged insult to his wife from some of the ruling party legislators. Naidu had termed the present Assembly as a Kaurava Sabha. He vowed to return to the Assembly only after winning the next elections and returning to power.
The TD legislators used to attend the sessions thereafter too, but they faced suspensions due to unruly behaviour.
As Chandrababu Naidu was arrested and imprisoned in Rajahmundry Central Prison following the state CID investigations into the skill development corporation corruption, the TD launched a series of protests against the arrest and cases against its tallest leader.
In recent days, there were animated discussions as to whether the TD legislators should attend the Session or boycott it in view of Naidu’s arrest. Reports said the TD leaders were divided over this issue. A section of the leaders favoured the legislators skipping the session and taking the issue to the public, just as Jagan Mohan Reddy did when he was on the defensive during the TD rule. This had helped Jagan Mohan Reddy get more public support.
Finally, however, the TD decided to attend the present Assembly Session to raise questions over the arrest of Naidu and expose the “atrocities and illegalities” of the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government.
The YSRC leaders say they are all set to expose the TD and Naidu vis-à-vis the skill development scam before the public through the present Assembly Session. “This will give us an occasion to give out the facts of the scam and retaliate against the false campaign of the TD,” they said.
Ministers Jogi Ramesh, Ambati Rambabu and Buggana Rajendranath have “invited” the TD legislators to the Assembly to “know the truths about the scams of the Naidu government.”
