First Vote for Telangana Elections Polled

First Home Vote Cast in Telangana Election

Hyderabad: In a historic move, the Election Commission of India has introduced a home voting facility in Telangana for senior citizens and persons with disabilities ahead of the upcoming elections on November 30.

Today, 91-year-old Annapurna Chunduri became the first to utilize this service in the Khairatabad constituency. Election officers and police collected her postal ballot at her residence.

This initiative allows eligible voters to cast their ballots from home, ensuring accessibility for those facing challenges reaching polling stations. Home voting will continue from November 21 to at least November 27 in all 119 assembly constituencies, marking the first time such a service is offered in Telangana.

When the Election Commission of India issued the notification for Assembly polls in four Indian states—Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajashtan, it also stated that postal ballot facility will be available for senior citizens (above 80 years) and PWD electors.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) provides a facility to senior citizens, aged 80 and above, and those with 40 percent disabilities to cast their vote from home using the home voting facility or the postal ballot facility
