People bogged down by civic woes in Amberpet constituency

Hyderabad: Difficulty to travel during the monsoon season is one of key grievances faced by the residents of Amberpet constituency. When the gates of the Osmansagar and the Himayatsagar were opened during the monsoon, residents in Amberpet found it difficult to use the Chaderghat bridge with the Musi river flowing under it.

There are two bridges in Chaderghat — one that is at a lower level connecting Malakpet Metro Rail station and the other that links Moosarambagh and Amberpet.

According to residents, it is risky to travel on the bridge when the Musi is in spate.

They said both the bridges were constructed at a lower level compared to other bridges in the city and the water flow increases significantly during intense spells of rain or in the monsoon season.

"There have been several instances where the water level has significantly increased and the authorities were forced to close both these bridges. The commute on these bridges becomes risky during downpour due to increase in water level," said T. Mohit, a resident of Barkatpura.

Though the foundation stone was laid to build new bridges over the Musi in the Amberpet constituency, people complained that the work did not commence.

The other issues faced by residents are the poor condition of roads and polluted drinking water. While Chappal Bazaar, Patelnagar and Satyanagar residents face the issues related to polluted drinking water, several roads at Nimboliadda and Nallakunta are in bad shape.

“The authorities have dug up roads to lay sewage lines in residential localities of Amberpet constituency, but they did not restore them. There have been instances when sewage got mixed in drinking water," said Diddi Rambabu, former corporator of Barkatpura ward.

Another issue faced by residents of Amberpet constituency is dilapidated government quarters.

"The government quarters located in Chaderghat that were handed over to municipal staff of lesser designation are in bad shape and the authorities have not taken steps to renovate it," said a retired municipal employee. Those living in slums complained that they did not receive 2BHK houses.

The Amberpet constituency also has a significant population of those having roots in north Indian states and a sizable chunk of Muslim population.
