Future Skills to Be Imparted in Secondary Schools From Next Academic Year: CM Jagan
Visakhapatnam: Modern skills will be taught to school students in Andhra Pradesh from the next academic year, stated Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday.
He was addressing a public meeting at Chintpalli in ASR district after launching the scheme to distribute free tabs with Byju’s content to the Class VII students.
“Students will learn about the internet of things, artificial intelligence, machine learning, block chain, robotics, cybercrime and online financing systems. This would enable them to compete with the world-class students,’’ the chief minister said.
He said tutors would be appointed to impart these skills to the students. This would be coupled with IB syllabus and digital class rooms.
The chief minister distributed tabs with content to 4,35,185 students from 9,424 schools. This cost the government Rs 620 crore.
He explained, “This is no wasteful expenditure, but a well thought-out investment in the promotion of the state’s human resources. These children hold a future for the state, for which a comprehensive exercise was carried out during the last 55 months,” he said.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said that during his last birthday also, tabs with Byju’s content were given to 5.5 lakh students. For that, Rs 686 crore was spent.
The tablets cost Rs 17,500 and Biju’s content Rs 15,500 for each tab. In all, each student is benefited by Rs 33,000. The students can learn only their lessons and not browse other content on Internet. A secure mobile device management software has been installed with each tab. “These tabs would work offline. Parents and teachers can know what the students are learning,’’ he said.
The chief minister said that, earlier, the government schools were competing with the corporate schools. Now the trend has been reversed, he noted.
Classrooms are being digitized from 6th Class. From 6th to 12th class, interactive flat panels are being established.
The first phase of Nadu-Nedu works has been completed and IFP has been established in 30,213 classrooms in 15,000 schools across the state. Similarly, English labs and smart TVs have been set up from first standard to the sixth, incurring an expenditure of Rs 420 crore.
He said the second phase of Nadu Nedu was going on and digitalization would be completed in 62,097 classrooms by January 30. Education minister Botsa Satyanarayana and deputy chief minister Budi Mutyalanaidu were present.
