This idealistic lot keen to change Mysuru politics
Mysuru: If millennials are planning to vote these coming elections to the state assembly, many of the contestants too seem to be first- timers in Mysuru district. While a couple are doctors, one a Ph.d- holder, another an engineer and one a lawyer, they all seem to have youth and ideals on their side.
Take BJP Mysuru city president, Dr. B.H. Manjunath, 39, who hopes to contest from Chamaraja constituency. Making no bones about his interest in the coming poll, he says when 70 per cent of the country’s population is below 35, it should ideally be represented by younger politicians. “It is a challenge, but let’s take the first step. We can certainly make a difference,” asserts Mysuru District Congress Committee president, Dr B J Vijaykumar, 40, who hopes to contest from Periyapatna.
There is also Dr S Yatindra, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who it is believed, is likely to contest from Varuna constituency. Having entered politics by chance after the passing of his brother, Rakesh, he is reported to be a simple, straightforward person, keen on serving people.
Among the other ticket hopefuls are 36 -year -old Sunil Bose, son of PWD minister, Dr H C Mahadevappa, and a degree holder who is already making his present felt in the T. Narsipur SC reserve constituency represented by his father.
He hopes the party will field him instead from the constituency these elections.
Mr Anil Chikkamaadu, 28, a BE graduate and son of the late MLA Chikkamadu, recently moved from the JD (S) to the Congress, hoping to contest from the H D Kote ST reserve constituency these elections. And 40- year -old Ravishankar, a LLB- holder and son of the late, Doddaswamegowda, who contested on a Congress ticket twice from KR Nagar, hopes the party will field him in place of his father this time.
But if the BJP and Congress have young contestants in the pipeline, so does the JD(S). Mr Harish Gowda, son of its senior leader, G T Devegowda is also vying for a ticket these elections, making Mysuru a possible launch pad of many a career in weeks to come.
