Paritala Sunitha gives up seat for son
ANANTAPUR: Almost every election sees parents making way for their children in the race to power. This time, however, some of the biggest of leaders in the district are sitting back and have secured the nomination for their children.
While dynastic succession is a general trend, it is seen more specifically in faction-hit areas and among well-known families.
Women empowerment minister Paritala Sunitha tried to shift out of her Raphtadu Assembly segment, perhaps for better prospects. When the Telugu Desam was not willing, she decided to opt out and forwarded the case of her son, Mr Sriram.
The TD agreed, and Mr Sriram will be contesting from Rapthadu.
Sources said the party high command had refused Ms Sunitha’s bid to transfer to Kalyanadurgam. In fact, it fielded a new face from that seat, denying even sitting MLA U. Hanumantharaya Chowdary.
Also in the district, Mr J.C. Diwakar Reddy, the sitting Anantapur MP, and his brother J.C. Prabhakar Reddy, the legislator from Tadipathri, have fielded their sons. Both leaders have confined themselves to campaigning for their next generation.
Mr Diwakar Reddy, who has never lost in an election, has fielded his son J.C. Pavan Reddy from the Anantapur Lok Sabha seat. His brother Prabhakar Reddy’s son J.C. Asmith Reddy has been fielded from the Tadipatri Assembly constituency.
