Devendra Fadnavis: KLIP will change Telangana

He added that Maharashtra would benefit from the project as it will have 60 km of backwaters which it can utilise.

WARANGAL: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project (KLIP) was a gift from the people of Maharashtra to the people of Telangana state. He lauded the efforts of Telangana state Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao who completed the project at record speed.

After taking part in the inauguration of the Medigadda barrage and Kannepalli pump house, he visited the Kalesh-wara Mukteswara Swa-my temple accompanied by TS ministers A. Indra-karan Reddy, Excise minister V. Srinivasa Goud. He expressed happiness over visiting the temple situated at the confluence of three rivers — Godavari, Pranahita and Saraswati.

He said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed us to maintain a cooperative federalism between states. The two states have collaborated. I am very happy Telangana state could complete this at a record speed. It will change the face of Telangana. For so many years, this dispute was pending. But I ensured when KCR came to me that this dispute should be resolved because the water which was hitherto flowing to the sea should be utilised for our farmers. When KCR told me this, I immediately accepted,” he said.

He added that Maharashtra would benefit from the project as it will have 60 km of backwaters which it can utilise.

“The way Godavari flows through Maharas-htra, it is very difficult for Maharashtra to lift it. This is a proposition where we gain but do not lose anything. But Telangana state gains a lot much more,” Mr Fadnavis stated.
