Hyderabad: The severe power shortage and frequent power cuts being witnessed in Karnataka for the past few days should be an eye-opener for the people of Telangana, especially farmers, said energy minister G. Jagadish Reddy. He appealed to the people not to believe in Congress 'six guarantees'.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Reddy said, "Congress came to power in Karnataka by giving five guarantees to the people. For the Telangana Assembly polls, it has announced six guarantees. Karnataka people believed Congress guarantees and voted it to power. Now, look at their fate. Within five months of Congress coming to power, Karnataka has plunged into darkness with a severe power crisis. Farmers hit the streets to protest against the failure to supply at least five hours of power per day."
Reddy said Karnataka is almost double the size of Telangana in terms of area.
"But Karnataka's peak power demand is just 15,000 MWs, which the Congress government failed to meet.
Telangana is able to meet peak power demand of even 18,000 MWs today.
That's the capability and commitment of the BRS government, which made Telangana the only state in the country to give a 24-hour power supply.
If Telangana people believe Congress guarantees and elect to power, they should realise that Telangana will plunge into the darkness like in the days of the undivided Andhra Pradesh," Reddy urged.
