Belagavi: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday took the moral high ground and decided not to attend the extravagant marriage of small scale industries minister and sugar baron Ramesh Jarkiholi’s son Santosh on Monday and even said he would like his cabinet colleagues to skip the wedding.
However, his close aides and ministers — Dr H. C. Mahadevappa and H.S. Mahadevprasad — attended this wedding along with several other Congress leaders despite the CM’s advice.
Speaking to DC, a senior leader observed that to undo the damage done and to end rumours about a rift between the Jarkiholi family and himself, Mr Siddaramaiah may go to Gokak to have breakfast with the newlyweds. The source added that public representatives need to be sensitive while conducting such family functions especially when the state was reeling under drought. “Our party was in the forefront criticising Mr Janardhan Reddy for spending several crores on his daughter’s wedding. Under such circumstances, how can we (Congress leaders) think of going to such functions?” he wondered.
