Karnataka: HM fumes at Centre for failing to initiate steps to mitigate drought

Addressing statements from BJP predicting the Congress government's exit after January, Parameshwara dismissed them as mere daydreaming

Vijayapura: Home Minister G. Parameshwara has strongly responded to allegations made by BJP leaders regarding the Congress government's handling of drought management.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to the district on Tuesday, he questioned the measures taken by the central government on drought relief.

"Tell me, what measures has the Centre taken on drought relief? We have already sent a proposal of Rs 17,000 crore to the Centre. How much compensation have they given?" Minister Parameshwara challenged.

Addressing statements from BJP leaders predicting the Congress government's exit after January, Parameshwara dismissed them as mere daydreaming.

"You see, some people have such dreams, which we call daydreams. Let them daydream, and no one opposes. We will not say that they should not have such dreams," he said.

Responding to questions if there would be an increase in the number of Deputy Chief Ministers (DCMs) in the state, Parameshwara emphasized the government's focus on drought mitigation.

"There is drought in the state, and we are planning to take necessary measures. Signs of a drinking water problem in January are emerging, and we are actively considering it. At present, none of us are contemplating the CM or Deputy CM posts," he added.
