BJP begins groundwork in coastal, North Karnataka

Though the candidate list is yet to be finalized, the party has already activated all seven of its wings or Morchas

MANGALURU: The Bharatiya Janata Party has begun its groundwork in coastal and North Karnataka districts ahead of the upcoming elections.

Though the candidate list is yet to be finalized, the party has already activated all seven of its wings or Morchas including Kisan Morcha, Mahila, SC, Yuva, ST, OBC, and Minority.

The BJP has had a strong organizational presence in coastal Karnataka districts like Udupi and Dakshina Kannada since the 1970s. The party has performed well in the North, Belagavi, and Kalyana Karnataka region during the 2018 elections. In all districts of North Karnataka, except for Bidar, Raichur and Ballari, BJP won more seats than the Congress.

This time, the BJP aims to repeat its success and win more seats. The party has already begun reaching out to people through its various wings, even before the candidates are finalized.

"We have already conducted Vijay Sankalp Yatras at the district level, where our leaders have addressed the people. Some national leaders have also attended the programme in certain places. In the coming days, leaders including Narendra Modi will visit the region. However, we want to maintain continuity in our campaign. As such, we are organizing a convention of each Morcha in a different constituency. For instance, if the Kisan Morcha convention is held in one constituency, the Minority Morcha convention is held in another," a senior BJP leader told Deccan Chronicle.

The BJP is organizing a convention of each Morcha in a constituency, where party leaders discuss the projects and works undertaken by the state and central government for that particular section. For instance, in the Yuva Morcha program, the leaders talk about the government's programme for youth, in the Kisan Morcha programme, they speak about the projects for the farmers and in the Mahila Morcha programme, the party discusses its contribution to women's empowerment.

"This will help the party in telling our programme in detail to each section at the grassroots level. Our office bearers and senior workers will travel to other constituencies and help each other. In Coastal Karnataka, the party is more important than the candidate. So by the time the party declares the candidate, we would have reached the people. Once the candidate is declared, we will just have to ask the people to vote for him," he added.

With this strategic approach, the BJP hopes to gain an advantage in the upcoming elections and grab more seats to win a clear majority.
