Enraged at CM's silence, Gulf workers decide on electoral route

HYDERABAD: Gulf returnees and their family members have decided to file nominations in the ensuing Assembly elections in order to highlight their problems. Incidentally, 32 of the 119 Assembly constituencies in the state have a sizable population of Gulf migrants, whose vote could prove decisive.

The Telangana diaspora associations in the Gulf countries and the migrant workers’ unions in Telangana have come together to form Telangana Gulf Workers Joint Action Committee on Thursday. The JAC said that none of the promises made to Gulf workers by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao have not been fulfilled.

Opposition parties are strategically preparing for the elections with regard to issues concerning Gulf workers as their main agenda in north Telangana from where many are working in the Gulf. The BJP, Congress, BSP, YSR TP and Forward Bloc are all undertaking padayatras and other programs to highlight this problem.

The Gulf Workers Political Forum hopes to use elections as a powerful tool to put pressure for a Gulf Board and a vibrant NRI policy. Reportedly, political parties have conducted surveys on the impact of Gulf migrant workers in select Assembly constituencies.
