M Karunanidhi's centenary starts at Thiruvarur on June 3
Chennai: The year-long celebrations to mark the centenary of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will kick start on June 3 at Thiruvarur with national leaders from various parties taking part in the inauguration of ‘Kalignar Kottam,’ a memorial premises with a museum and kalyana mandapam, and a conference attended by DMK’s alliance party leaders.
The decision to make the celebrations a fitting tribute to the exemplary leader who had devoted 80 of his 95 years to public life was taken at the DMK district secretaries meeting on Wednesday with the participants resolving to ensure that the entire nation took note of the remembrance with awe.
Ahead of the inauguration of the centenary, the DMK, at the behest of party president and Chief Minister M K Stalin would embark on a massive enrollment drive to add one crore members to the party already having a crore members in its rolls.
The enrollment drive from April 3 to June 3 would be carried out with a distribution of pamphlets, verandah meetings and door-to-door meetings by party cadre and functionaries.
The events through the year, in the run up to the Centenary celebrations on June 3, 2024, will highlight the multifarious roles that Karunanidhi players in his distinguished public life a protector of the Tamil Language, a defender of Tamil rights, a developer of Tamil Nadu, an upholder of Dravidian Self Respect and fighter of State autonomy.
His commitment to the causes of promoting fraternity, safeguarding secularism, annihilating caste and developing arts and culture would be remembered and highlighted to the people to cherish those ideas.
