Congress will halt VSP privatisation: PCC chief

VISAKHAPATNAM: AP Pradesh Congress Committee president Gidugu Rudra Raju said Congress would stop the privatisation of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP).

In a show of solidarity, Raju led a huge rally from Zinc Gate to the main entrance of the Steel Plant, where the Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Committee began an indefinite strike two years ago.

A large number of Congress workers, trade union leaders and local people took part in the rally. He garlanded the statue of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi at Gajuwaka junction.

Addressing the crowd during the rally, Rudra Raju firmly stated that the Congress would persistently protest until the Central Government withdraws its proposals for the steel plant's privatisation. He also said that senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would join the cause and actively participate in the agitation scheduled in August in Visakhapatnam. Despite the YSRC government's decision to sell the Gangavaram Port, Raju assured that the Congress party would be resolute in preventing the privatisation of the steel plant.
