BJP, Congress Must Work on Passing Women Reservations Bill in Parliament: Kavita
Hyderabad: Recalling that Dr. B R Ambedkar, who drafted Indian Constitution, fought for Women reservations in India, the MLC and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's daughter K Kavita on Wednesday demanded the ruling BJP at Centre and main opposition -- Congress party to work on passing Women Reservation Bill in Parliament in ensuing winter session for the benefit of women.
Speaking to mediapersons on Wednesday at her palatial residence in Banjara Hills, Kavita countered the allegations made by the Union Minister and BJP Chief G Kishan Reddy and TPCC Chief and MP A Revanth Reddy's remarks on allotting seats for women in BRS first list. The BRS party released the first list of 115 candidates of the total 119 to contest in the ensuing Assembly elections.
"When Jawaharlal Nehru was prime minister, only one woman was allotted cabinet portfolio. After 76 years of Independence, only two women were given cabinet berths during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's nine-year tenure. Why out governments failed to provide more women in Cabinet? Kavita asked.
The MLC demanded that Union Minister Kishan Reddy and TPCC Chief Revanth Reddy work on passing a resolution in Parliament and bring pressure on their parties to bring out Bill on women's reservations. "Dr BR Ambedkar had fought for the Women Reservation Bill and he had also tendered resignation for his posts demanding women reservations. Similarly, the BRS party will fight for women's reservations Bills and I will sit in for staging protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi after Assembly elections finish in Telangana," Kavita said.
The BRS party MLC also reacted to the present political situation prevailing in the state after the Chief Minister and BRS party Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao announced the first list of candidates to contest in Assembly elections. She predicted that the BRS party would come to power for a third consecutive time in Telangana after the people started avoiding BJP and Congress parties. People would vote for the BRS party after the ruling government introduced a number of people's friendly policies and implemented them.
Replying to a query on Chief Minister would contest from two Assembly constituencies-- Gajwel and Kamareddy, Kavita reacted that the Chief Minister would contest from two Assembly constituencies and there is a big plan behind the decision. The opposition parties are still unable to know the plan.
Kavita also reacted to Malkajgiri MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao's remarks on Minister T Harish Rao. Kavita said that every BRS activist and leader must comply with the rules and regulations of the party. If anyone violated the party guidelines, Politburo would consider taking action.
The Chief Minister's daughter further responded to the LB Nagar police harassment of a Lambada woman inside the police station. "Minutes after the incident took place, we received information and directed the Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar to suspend two police constables male and female immediately and take stringent action against two police for not repeating such incidents in Telangana.," Kavita said.
