Nagarkurnool: Five persons attacked Chintu, brother of independent candidate Shirisha, popularly known as ‘Barrelakka’ on Youtube, during an election campaign at Venjerala in Kollapur on Tuesday.
A video in which she broke down questioning the politics of ‘rowdism’ went viral on social media platforms on Wednesday.
Recalling that her grandfather used to say that politics means ‘rowdism’, she said that her brother had faced the wrath and now the family was seeing it openly and from close quarters.
“My 18-year-old younger brother is innocent. He was preparing to serve food when five persons came from behind and assaulted him without any reason,” she said, weeping inconsolably.
She said that she was contesting from Kollapur to do something good for the people.
“We are not experienced politicians. Our only intention to contest and win the election is to render justice to the people. We did not know that contesting elections means getting attacked’,” she said.
“In spite of receiving threatening calls and knowing the persons who are behind it, I did not disclose any names. I am only fighting on behalf of the unemployed youth,” Shirisha said.
She said some people were resorting to these attacks fearing that she would divide their vote bank.
Meanwhile, she gave a written complaint to Kollapur police, who are yet to identify the people behind the incident.
