Congress leaders hold silent protest to support Rahul

HYDERABAD: Congress leaders held a silent protest after a court in Surat on Thursday sentenced Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to two years in jail in a 2019 criminal defamation case filed against him over his why all thieves have Modi surname remarks.

The silent protest held at Gandhi Bhavan was attended by AICC secretary Nadeem Javed, former PCC chiefs Ponnala Lakshmaiah, V. Hanumantha Rao, PCC working president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, M. Anjan Kumar Yadav, Mallu Ravi, G. Niranjan, M.R.G. Vinod Reddy, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, C. Rohin Reddy among others.

Speaking to media persons, Mahesh Kumar Goud termed it a “political vendetta” and said that Rahul Gandhi or the Congress party will not yield to this “harassment”.

“BJP is conspiring to stifle the voices of the Opposition. Modi is feeling insecure following the success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra. People of the nation will stand with Rahul Gandhi,” he said.

Hanumantha Rao asked whether Rahul Gandhi had committed an unforgivable mistake. “What wrong did Rahul Gandhi do? For BJP leaders Modi has become a bigger idol than Ram. Rahul Gandhi cannot be scared by this,” he said.
