Telangana: BJP extends support to electricity artisans' strike
Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday extended its support to artisans working in the state electricity utilities who announced earlier in the day that they would be going on a strike from Tuesday. State BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar strongly criticised the threat to enforce the Essential Services Maintenance Act against the artisans to stop them from striking work, and demanded that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao keep his promise of regularising their services.
The artisans had issued a strike notice demanding that a promise made to them be kept. The electricity utilities managements were threatening them with dire action under ESMA provisions, the employees union said.
“It is draconian that leaders of the striking employees are being arrested ahead of Tuesday. The BJP will stand by you and will fight on your behalf on the issue of regularising your services,” Sanjay told some leaders of the artisans who met him in Karimnagar on Monday.
