TD stages stir against power tariff hike
KAKINADA: Telugu Desam activists staged a stir in Eluru on Tuesday protesting against the hike in power tariff.
Led by TD in-charge of Eluru assembly constituency Badeti Radhakrishnaiah Chanti, they raised slogans against the government in front of electricity substation at Ramakrishnapuram. Chanti maintained that it is due to inefficiency of the YSRC government that power consumers are having to bear an additional burden of ₹57,188 crore in the past four years.
The TD leader maintained that owing to administrative efficiency, the then CM N. Chandrababu Naidu had no need to increase power tariff in the state.
But with Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy taking over, contractors are being encouraged and people are getting looted. He accused the state government of purchasing power equipment costing ₹60,000 for ₹1.30 lakh.
Chanti demanded that government ensure continuous power supply to all sectors, whether agriculture, industries or domestic. He demanded that the government withdraw its proposal of fixing power meters to agricultural connections.
Those who participated in the dharna included Telugu Desam leaders Chodi Venkata Ratnam, Nerusu Ganga Raju, G. Srinivas Reddy, K. Uma Maheswara Rao and K. Nagaraju.
