BJP MLAs won't join Congress in Karnataka, says Union minister
UDUPI: Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje dismissed speculations of BJP MLAs defecting to the Congress in Karnataka, assuring that all members would steadfastly work towards securing a third consecutive term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing the media during her visit to Udupi on Wednesday, Karandlaje emphasised on the unity within the BJP ranks. Her statement arrives amidst swirling rumours suggesting the potential departure of some BJP MLAs to join the Congress.
"During the period when the BJP held power, some MLAs chose to align with our party. They were placed in a creamy layer. Despite not holding power in the state at present, these MLAs are unlikely to leave the party's fold," she said.
Turning her attention to the ongoing controversy surrounding the release of Kaveri water to Tamil Nadu, the Union Minister stressed the need for a pragmatic approach.
In her opinion, instead of trying to appease the allies in the I.N.D.I.A alliance, the Congress government in the state should focus on transparently communicating the state's situation to the Tamil Nadu government.
Given the scarcity of water resources, Shobha advocated for a priority on releasing water solely for drinking purposes, rather than for Kuruvai cultivation in Tamil Nadu.
