Khammam arena challenging for both BRS, Congress

KHAMMAM: While the BRS is facing turbulence after announcing its list of candidates for the forthcoming assembly elections, the Congress too will find it a tough task. Leaders of both parties are ready to change loyalties in case they are not allotted tickets.

It will depend on how the parties handle aspirants who have not got tickets.

A senior Congress leader maintained that accommodating new candidates is a tough job, when there are many aspirants for the Congress ticket from all assembly constituencies.

Matters in erstwhile Khammam district have changed a lot after former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has joined Congress. The party has pinned considerable hopes on him. But it will have to also contend with leaders who have joined the Congress along with him.

Already, Tellam Venkat Rao, who joined Congress along with Srinivas Reddy, has returned to BRS after the ruling party gave him the ticket from Bhadrachalam.

Former minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao and former MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao are exploring options after BRS has denied them the ticket from Paleru and Kothagudem constituencies respectively.

However, Chief Minister K. Chadrasekhar Rao has deputed MP Nama Nageshwar Rao to hold talks with Thummala Nageshwar Rao in Hyderabad on Wednesday. It is not yet known what has been promised to Nageshwar Rao.

Kandala Upender Reddy has got the ruling party ticket from Paleru and Vanama Venkateshwar Rao from Kothagudem.
