Tug of war between Ponnala, Kommuri for Jangaon Congress ticket

WARANGAL: The letter written by Congress obedient leaders to AICC (All India Congress Committee) president Mallikarjun Kharge regarding the appointment of former MLA Kommuri Prathap Reddy as DCC (District Congress Committee) president caused a stir in the political circles of the party in Jangaon district.

The Congress leaders said in the letter that Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A. Revanth Reddy misled the AICC leadership by providing misleading information on Prathap Reddy and demanded that he be immediately removed from his position as DCC.

Political tensions emerged between former PCC president and former minister Ponnala Laxmaiah and Prathap Reddy when both began coveting the Jangaon Assembly sector seat.

When the people's march headed by Bhatti Vikramarka arrived the Jangaon district, supporters of both leaders competed with one other to greet Vikramarka and even clashed by chanting chants against each other. The cops intervened and dispersed both sides before the incident deteriorated.

When the political tensions between the Kommuri and Ponnala groups remained high, the appointment of Kommuri as DCC president came as a surprise to the Ponnala group and the district's senior officials, including Satyanarayana Reddy, Mahendar Reddy, and Kanche Ramulu.
Ponnala met AICC president Kharge and other senior leaders in New Delhi to express his displeasure and to demand that his name be considered for any state committees announced by the TPCC. He also emphasised the importance of BC leaders participating in the party in order to achieve victory in the upcoming assembly elections.

Meanwhile, Pittala Satish, Udutha Ravi Yadav, Mote Srinu, Patturi Srinivas, former councillors Akula Lakshmaiah and Bandari Srinivas, and followers of Ponnala Laxmi and former DCC president Janga Raghava Reddy shifted to the Kommuri camp after later becoming the DCC president of Jangaon district.
