BJP builds election campaign in Chhattisgarh around Modi
New Delhi: On the backfoot in the tricky terrains of Chhattisgarh, the BJP’s election campaign is built around its main vote-catching machine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. To take on the Congress, the BJP will unleash a propaganda blitz against the alleged corruption and misgovernance of the Bhupesh Bhagel government in the state.
Sources in the saffron camp said that the party's entire campaign in Chhattisgarh will revolve around Modi and his inclusive governance model, as the central leadership has decided to contest the election under "collective leadership".
“The Prime Minister is the most popular leader and he will lead our campaign in Chhattisgarh. Our campaign will highlight the unprecedented all-round development of the state in the last nine years under the Modi government,” sources said.
Besides riding on the charisma of Modi, the BJP has also decided to corner the Congress by attacking the Bhagel government for corruption and its misgovernance in the state.
Senior Chhattisgarh BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal said that while development has stalled in the state, corruption has touched new heights in the state under the Bhagel government.
"In the last five years, Chhattisgarh has witnessed massive corruption, while development has come to a standstill. Money collected through corrupt means was used by the chief minister to please his political bosses in Delhi. The people of Chhattisgarh will give a befitting reply to the Congress party and Bhagel in the impending elections,” Agrawal said.
Attacking the Congress government in the state, the BJP posted a caricature of Baghel that portrayed him as Ravan on social media. The on X said, “This time Ravan of corruption will be consigned to flames."
Reacting to the post, Baghel said that abusing the backward classes, tribals and Dalits has been a tradition of former chief minister Raman Singh and his party.
Two-phase voting for the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly is scheduled for November 7 and 17. In the first phase, 20 Assembly constituencies will go to the polls and voting in the remaining 70 seats will be held in the second phase. The counting of votes will take place on December 3.
In the last Assembly polls in 2018, the BJP had lost power after ruling the state for 15 years. The BJP has won 15 seats out of 90 in the state.
