Vundavalli Cautions Jagan over Changing MLA Candidates
Kakinada: Rajamahendravaram former MP Vundavalli Aruna Kumar feels Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s move to change most of the sitting MLAs in coming AP assembly general elections should be very tactful.
“The CM should tread very carefully in this matter,” he told reporters at Rajamahendravaram on Saturday.
After Telangana elections, many analysts have observed that former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao should have changed many of the sitting MLAs and given tickets to new comers.
“Jagan seems to be of the same view. He wants to replace sitting MLAs. But he should be extremely careful. Nobody MLA wants to be replaced. Jagan should replace the MLA, only if he is sure that the newcomer will bring in at least double the number of votes. The replaced MLAs may become dissidents and cut into the share of ruling party,” Aruna Kumar explained.
He belongs to no party nowadays. He gave this advice to Jagan Mohan Reddy in response to a question posed by a reporter.
Speaking about the new party floated by former CBI director J.D. Lakshmi Narayana, the MP pointed out that former IAS officer Jayaprakash Narayana floated the Lok Satta Party. Though he became an MLA and played a prominent role in politics, he could not make any impact. But another official Arvind Kejriwal started the Aam Aadmi Party and succeeded only because there are educated voters in Delhi.
“Lakshmi Narayana may not get seats. But he can get votes and split the vote share of remaining political parties,” Aruna Kumar remarked.
Speaking about Congress in AP, he said the strength of Congress has increased in the country. Rahul Gandhi has also become a matured politician. There may be an increase in Congress vote share from 0.5 per cent to 4 per cent. But it may not be sufficient to win in 2024 elections.
He maintained that the Yuvagalam padayatra has been successful.
