Local body MLC polls: YSRC nominees win seats without contest in Anantapur and Kadapa
ANANTAPUR: MLC candidates from the Local Bodies constituencies in Anantapur and Kadapa have won the seats without a contest as the nominations of the Telugu Desam and Independents were rejected during scrutiny on Friday, citing technical defects. YSRC nominees S. Mangamma from Anantapur and Ramssubba Reddy from Kadapa were the winners.
The TD alleged that the candidature of Veluri Rangaiah, a close aide of Tadipatri municipal chairman J.C. Prabhakar Reddy, was rejected even as all necessary documents were submitted. The nomination of Rangaiah was rejected on technical grounds. Counsel of Rangaiah observed that they had submitted all necessary documents but these were rejected a few minutes after the filing of the nomination papers.
Mangamma is the wife of late MP, S. Gangadhar. N. Venkata Ramanaiah’s nominations for the Kadapa Local Bodies MLC seat were rejected after the officials found submission of forged documents. YSRC candidate Rama Subba Reddy thus gets elected without a contest from the Kadapa Local Bodies MLC seat.
Venkata Ramanaiah alleged that the tahsildar of Obulavaripalle did not give him a voter enrollment certificate. The tahsildar was not available at his station and he should be made answerable for this, he said.
Meanwhile, YSRC leaders alleged that the TD was trying to gain political mileage even though the party did not have the minimum seats required to win the polls in the local body MLC constituencies. “We had a majority in every district,” Anantapur urban MLA Ananta Venkatrami Reddy observed.
