YSRCP MP Avinash Reddy appears before CBI on Vivekananda\'s murder case

HYDERABAD: A CBI superintendent of police questioned Kadapa YSRC MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy for four-and-a-half hours in connection with his uncle and former minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy's murder case on Thursday. The agency has alleged the role of the MP and his father Bhaskar Reddy in the murder.

The CBI had served a notice under the Criminal Procedure Code Section 160 to the Kadapa MP, a cousin of AP Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, asking him to appear before the agency at its office in Koti. Avinash Reddy went to the office with advocates.

CBI SP Ram Singh asked Avinash Reddy to appear alone. The CBI officials armed with call data reports and statements of witnesses and the accused questioned the MP. Outside, the Hyderabad police had imposed restrictions and deployed a large number of personnel for security reasons.

A number of YSRC leaders came to the place but the police asked them to leave.

Two days ago, the CBI officials had said in a petition filed in connection with the bail plea of one of the accused, Sunil Yadav, that Avinash Reddy had noticed blood stains at the spot and had informed that Vivekananda Reddy died due to heart attack. Avinash Reddy allegedly played a key role in erasing evidence at the scene of offence.
On January 28, the CBI had questioned Avinash Reddy for four hours in connection with the case with regard to the call data of his mobile phone at the time Vivekananda Reddy was found murdered.

On Thursday, after leaving the CBI office, Avinash Reddy told mediapersons that he had co-operated with the CBI, and asked the agency to disclose the letter that was purportedly found at the time of the death of Vivekananda Reddy. "When the TD levelled some allegations one year ago, the CBI said the same in an affidavit filed before the court. Don't target the person and a fair probe is to be done in the case," Avinash Reddy said.

He said he had submitted a representation to the CBI director seeking a fair investigation. He said he had asked the CBI officials to record his questioning.
"I answered all the questions of the CBI officials to the best of my knowledge. When the questioning was on, a section of the media started circulating false information. The media also deliberately reported that I was running away to Dubai and making calls in the early morning at the time of the death of Vivekananda Reddy. It is all false and baseless," Avinash Reddy said adding that the CBI did not ask him to appear again.
