Bhatti slams Amit Shah for remarks on Muslim quota
KARIMNAGAR: CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka called Union home minister Amit Shah's statement that the BJP will scrap 4 per cent reservations for Muslims in Telangana if the party forms government a "drop of poison" meant to cause unrest in a state where people live in peace and communal harmony.
Speaking to the media in Gunturpalle in Husnabad in Karimnagar district as part of his padayatra, Bhatti stated that while the Congress ahd fostered communal harmony, the BJP was whipping up communal passions in Telangana, which is like “Manasa Sarovaram”.
Bhatti stated that the Congress government provided 4 percent reservations to Muslims after studying their backwardness on the socio-political and economic front, whereas the BRS government stated that it would provide 12 per cent reservations to minorities but failed to do so.
Reservations for Muslims are based on empirical evidence, he said, adding that if Shah was serious about justice for SCs, STs, and OBCs, he should propose a constitutional reform that would abolish the 50 per cent quota ceiling. He questioned the BJP on why they are not conducting caste censuses for BCs if they want to do them justice.
“Despite the fact that the Supreme Court ordered a caste census, the BJP is misinterpreting the Supreme Court's verdict and imposing a 50 per cent cap on it,” Bhatti remarked. Former Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar chastised the BRS government for failing to pay compensation for damaged crops even after a month and for failing to purchase paddy. DCC president Kavvampalli Satyanarayana, NSUI state president Balmuri Venkat, Parliament in charge Dommari Smbaiah, PCC state general secretary Kota Neelima and Bheerla Ilaiah were also present.
