Kannur boasts of the most number of ministers
KANNUR: Kannur will have the maximum share of four ministers in the new 19-member cabinet of the state. Apart from chief minister-designate Pinarayi Vijayan, E.P. Jayarajan and K.K. Shylaja are the CPM representatives from the district. Along with them, Congress (S) president Kadannappally Ramachandran will also be sworn in on Wednesday.
In UDF government, Kannur’s representation was reduced to one with minister for culture K.C. Joseph, who represented Irikkur constituency. While Mr Vijayan and Mr Jayarajan were elected with a whopping majority in the party's traditional citadels of Dharmadam and Mattannur, Ms Shylaja and Mr Ramachandran wrested UDF’s sitting seats of Kuthuparamba and Kannur respectively.
Mr Jayarajan has the highest margin among the LDF MLAs in the state- 43, 381 votes. Ms Shylaja trounced agriculture minister K.P. Mohanan in his stronghold by 12,291 votes. Mr Ramachandran, who earlier refused to contest from Kannur, which is known as a UDF bastion, won by a margin of 1,196 votes.
