After 52 years, Hosur assembly sends DMK member to House
Krishnagiri: Both the DMK and its alliance partner the Congress are happy because of the former winning the Hosur assembly constituency and the latter elected from the Krishnagiri Parliament constituency.
The DMK was unable to contest from the Hosur assembly segment because this was allotted to its alliance partner since 1967, the first alliance formed by the DMK with the Swatantra party founded by Rajaji. In 2019, the DMK, for the first time, contested from Hosur in the by-polls conducted following the disqualification of AIADMK minister and Hosur MLA P.Balakrishna Reddy. The DMK fielded S.A.Sathya against AIADMK candidate S.Jyothi, wife of Balakrishna Reddy. Sathya defeated Jyothi by a margin of 23,213 votes.
Sathya secured 1,15,027 votes and Jyothi got 91,814 votes out of 2,28,790 total polled votes. M.Rajasekar of Naam Thamilar Katchi and P.Jeyapal of Manitha Neeya Makkal Katchi secured 6740 and 8032 votes respectively.
The DMK alliance partner, the Congress was elected from the Krishnagiri Parliament constituency and its candidate S.Chellakumar defeated AIADMK senior leader K.P.Munusamy by a margin of 1,56,765 votes. Chellakumar secured 6,11,298 votes and his rival Munusamy got 4,54,533 votes.
Previously, the Congress was elected from here eight times from Krishnagiri constituency since 1951. Later, it could not field its candidate because the constituency was allotted to its alliance partner in the seat sharing process.
In 1998, K.P.Munusamy who was defeated in this (2019) election was sent to Parliament after the Lok Sabha elections conducted in 1998.
From 1999 onwards, the DMK had continuously won four times till it lost Krishnagiri to K.Ashok Kumar of the AIADMK in 2014.
