Ponnam Prabhakar may contest from Husnabad
Karimnagar: Former MP and senior Congress leader Ponnam Prabhakar is likely to contest from the Husnabad assembly segment. He will submit his application form at the party headquarters of Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday, the Vara Lakshmi Vratham day.
Ponnam had got elected as MP from Karimnagar in 2009 elections, when Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy returned to power.
After formation of Telangana state in 2014, the Congress leader again contested from the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat. But he lost to BRS candidate Gangula Kamalakar.
Ponnam again contested from Karimnagar parliament seat in 2019. He lost this election to BJP candidate Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Having faced several defeats, the Congress leader has chosen Husnabad, considered a safe seat where people of his Goud community live in large numbers.
Former MLA and Mulkanoor Cooperative Society chairman A. Praveen Reddy had been preparing the ground to contest from Husnabad on the Congress ticket.
In case both Ponnam and Praveen file applications from Husnabad constituency, Congress leadership will decide to whom the ticket must go.
