MP: Shivraj takes dig at Digvijay for calling his Kanya Pujan' as Nautanki'
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday slammed Congress veteran Digvijay Singh for calling the ‘Kanya Pujan’ (worshiping of girls) by him on the occasion of Dussehra as ‘Nautanki’ (drama), dubbing it as a ‘dirty mindset’.
“I have been doing ‘Kanya Pujan’ in every social function and everyday as a mark of respect to women and girls. This is Hindu culture and Sanatan Dharma. I am pained to learn that Mr Singh called the ‘Kanya Pujan’ by me as ‘Nautanki’”, he said.
Mr Chouhan described it as ‘dirty mindset’ of Mr Singh.
“What do you expect from people who call women ‘tonchi maal’ and ‘item’”, he said.
He was referring to earlier statements by Mr Singh and Congress veteran Kamal Nath.
Mr Singh, while talking to reporters here late on Monday, had called the ‘Kanya Pujan’ done by Mr Chouhan as ‘Nautanki’.
Mr Chouhan said women should be treated with respect by men in a family and the society.
