Vijayawada: With Tuesday (February 28) being the last date for nominations, the TD polit bureau is likely to meet and finalise its MLC candidates by Monday. Sixteen MLC positions are to be filled up, out of which nine are from local bodies and seven from MLA quota.
With 30 applications, West Godavari tops the list, followed by Srikakulam (21) for local bodies MLC. The top criteria might be caste along with financial status.
Candidates completing their tenure are trying their best to regain their position through local bodies, but there is tough competition ahead. Vakati Narayana Reddy MLC from Nellore local bodies is trying to come back, but has to face tough competition from Anam brothers, Adala Prabhakar Reddy and other TD senior leaders.
Chowdary Babji from Srikakulam, being district party president earlier and close aide to Yerrannaidu, has gained support of the TD cadre, but has to face a tough fight as there are 20 others competing in the race. Even in Godavari districts, it is going to be tough for the TD. There is a demand and assurance for TD organising secretary Mantena Satyanar-ayana Raju to be MLC from West Godavari district.
