Constituency-level BRS meetings expose differences within party
Adilabad: Fissures within Bharat Rashtra Samithi stand exposed in erstwhile Adilabad district with several senior leaders absenting themselves from constituency-level meetings which the ruling party is organising ahead of the forthcoming assembly general elections.
Some of the BRS leaders went and attended meetings in other constituencies instead of their own. This only helped sitting MLAs show their strength at the meetings in their respective assembly constituencies, as ordered by the party high command.
Surprisingly, even those aspiring for tickets of BRS and having differences with sitting MLAs in majority of the assembly constituencies skipped the meetings. As a result, the meetings passed off peacefully.
Top leadership of BRS had issued instructions asking all important leaders to organise preparatory plenary meetings in their respective assembly constituencies ahead of the ruling party's main plenary on Thursday, April 27. However, several key BRS leaders absented themselves from these important meetings.
For example, former Adilabad municipal chairperson Rangineni Manisha and Telangana Dairy Development Corporation former chairman Loka Bhuma Reddy did not attend the BRS meeting held in Adilabad town. The two are aspirants for ruling party ticket from Adilabad assembly constituency. However, senior leader and another ticket aspirant Goverdhan Reddy did attend the meeting in Adilabad.
Former Adilabad MP Godam Nagesh, who is seeking BRS ticket from Boath assembly constituency, attended the meeting in Adilabad, while bunking the meeting in Boath. Adilabad ZP chairman Rathod Janardhan, who is an aspirant for the ruling party ticket from Khanapur also attended the meeting in Adilabad.
Senior leader K. Srihari Rao absented himself from the meeting in Nirmal. He had earlier written a letter to minister Indrakaran Reddy, criticising the minister for ignoring senior leaders in the constituency.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the Adilabad ZP chairman maintained that he did not attend the meeting in Khanapur to avoid any controversy. He maintained that he would have attended the Khanapur meeting had the local MLA Rekha Naik behaved properly with fellow leaders in the party.
Rathod Janardhan maintained he will attend the Athmeeya Sammelanam in Utnoor on May 2. The leader’s associates said Rathod Janardhan deliberately avoided the meeting in the Khanapur constituency headquarters. Had the meeting been held in other places like Indravelli, Sirikonda or Utnoor, which also fall in Khanapur constituency, the ZP chairman would have attended that meeting.
