YSRC fields Shilpa Mohan Reddy for Nandyal seat
Kurnool: YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday nominated Shilpa Mohan Reddy — a new entrant to the party — for the Nandyal Assembly byelection, necessitated by the death of TD legislator Bhuma Nagi Reddy.
The TD had nominated Nagi Reddy’s relative Brahmananda Reddy but it was attempting to secure a unanimous ele-ction as has been the practice for some years.
The selection of Mr Mohan Reddy, who had recently defected from the TD, was done after discussion with party leaders of Kurnool district, sources said.
The YSRC appointed Mr Mohan Reddy as the Nandyal constituency coordinater, easing out Mr M. Rajagopal Reddy, a close relative of Nand-yal MP S.P.Y Reddy and one of the aspirants.
Mr Mohan Reddy, then in the Congress, won the Nandyal seat in the 2004 and 2009 elections. In 2014, he lost in 2014 by a small margin to Bhuma Nagi Reddy.
