Telangana Congress leaders vie to get CWC berth

Hyderabad: With the Congress high command is all set to reconstitute Congress Working Committee, the highest decision-making body in the party, several leaders from Telangana are lobbying to get a berth. That there has not been a member from both the Telugu states after K. Keshava Rao has increased the chances of some of the leaders being accommodated.

One of the frontrunners is Dr S.A. Sampath Kumar former MLA from Alampur constituency. Responding to the reports, he said, “I fit the position for the post and hence requesting for a berth in the CWC. I represent the Madiga caste, the single largest community in the State. We should also be given representation in the body, not just Reddy’s. I have been with the party for the past 30 years. Being the AICC in-charge of Maharashtra I fit the bill for the post in line with the Udaipur declaration that reserved 50 percent of the posts to the SC and STs. I am in Delhi to meet Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday.”

The Congress MLA Danasari Seethakka from Mulug constituency is also reported to be a strong contender for the post. She is reportedly being backed by the TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy.

Responding to queries about his aspirations for CWC membership, former TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said, “I am not in the race now. Seethakka, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, K. Jana Reddy and Sampath are trying to become part of the body.”
