Kashaf, who called for beheading Raja Singh, gets bail

Hyderabad: Syed Abdahu Kashaf, former IT cell head of the AIMIM and self-proclaimed activist, was granted bail by a local court hours after the cybercrime police booked him on Thursday in connection with a video post allegedly calling for beheading of suspended BJP MLA T. Raja Singh.

In a related incident, Congress leader Rashid Khan was booked for making offensive statements and promoting enmity between different religious groups.

As protests broke out on Monday, Kashaf is alleged to have raised a slogan of “Gustakh-e-Rasool ki ek hi saza, sar tan se juda (beheading is the only punishment for a person who disrespects the Prophet).”

City police commissioner C.V. Anand said, “He posted a tweet that was a very alarming statement intended to provoke a breach of peace. Accordingly, suo motu cognisance was taken and we registered a cybercrime case. Investigation was taken up swiftly and evidence was collected. The accused further tried to mobilise people.”

Kashaf was booked for promoting enmity between different groups, intent to cause fear or incite, after being served with a notice under Section 41A of the CrPC on Wednesday.

“The investigation will be finalised and the case will be charged soon, with all efforts to secure a conviction. Further, a case was also registered under similar sections against Congress leader Rashid Khan for giving an offensive statement and promoting enmity between different groups. Investigation is underway and strict legal action will be taken against him as per evidence,” Anand said.

Anand warned people against making offensive statements that could incite violence and said that strict action would be taken against offenders.
