Use clay Ganesh idols to protect environment:Vinod Kumar
KARIMNAGAR: The vice-chairman of the State Planning Commission B. Vinod Kumar on Friday appealed to the people not to use Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) and plastic bags to protect the environment as they would pollute water bodies and soil. Instead, he preferred the use of clay idols for the ensuing Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
To create awareness among the people and to educate them about the importance of worshipping clay idols for the coming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, Vinod Kumar launched the distribution of clay idols and released a poster on the occasion here at Prathima Complex in Karimnagar district.
He has planned to distribute around 1,000 clay idols of Ganesh in the entire Karimnagar Parliament segment through local public representatives. Biodegradable starch bags, developed by DRDO, will also be distributed.
Speaking on the occasion, Vinod said that as per, the instructions given by the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Telangana State Pollution Control Board is preparing lakhs of clay Ganesh idols to be distributed to the people before the festival.
The district administration, along with the officials of the municipal and other departments, would also distribute the clay Ganesh idols free of cost to the people to protect the environment and to prevent the use of PoP idols and plastic bags.
MLC Padi Koushik Reddy, city Mayor Y. Sunil Rao, Eda Shankar Reddy, corporators Guggilla Jayasree, Gande Madhavi, Ganta Kalyani, Ramana Rao, Srinivas, Venu, Ilendar and Butchi Reddy were present on the occasion.
