CBI Harasses Lalu Due to Centre's Influence, Says Nitish

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said that RJD Chief Lalu Yadav is being harassed unnecessarily by the people holding power at the centre.

His statement came after the CBI moved the Supreme Court against Lalu Yadav's bail.

RJD Chief Lalu Yadav has been out on bail in multiple cases linked to the Rs. 950 Crores fodder scam cases.

The CBI challenged the Jharkhand High Court’s order that granted bail to Lalu Yadav in four fodder scam cases linked to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs. 950 crores from Dumka, Chaibasa, Deoghar and Doranda treasuries.

“See how they are harassing the poor man. All this is happening on the instruction of people holding power at the centre. The centre is misusing the central agencies to harass everyone, " Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said.

Besides, Nitish Kumar, many RJD leaders have also expressed their displeasure over CBI approaching the Supreme Court for the cancellation of Lalu Yadav’s bail.

“He (Lalu Yadav) has been facing this kind of harassment because he is not scared. The central agencies are being misused to harass everyone who opposes the government’s policies. The RJD, Mahagathbandhan and the INDIA alliance is not scared”, RJD leaders in Patna said.

The 75-year-old RJD Chief was granted bail by Jharkhand High Court in April last year in the Doranda treasury case on health grounds. After he was granted bail in the fodder scam case, Lalu Yadav was shifted to Delhi due to his ill health and was later taken to Singapore for a kidney transplant surgery in December 2022.

A special CBI court had sentenced him to five years in prison in the case related to the illegal withdrawal of Rs. 139.35 crore from Doranda treasury in 1995-96 when he was the Chief Minister of undivided Bihar.

The funds were illegally withdrawn through fake bills and vouchers in the name of arranging fodder and transporting animals.
