Ministers Lash Out at Governor for Rejecting MLC Nominations
HYDERABAD: Governor Tamiliasai Soundararajan rejecting two MLC nominations under Governor's quota, despite the recent show of bonhomie with Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has come as rude shock to the BRS government.
The Governor had recently accepted the invitation of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and attended the inauguration of a temple, mosque and church in the Secretariat. The CM had also given the Governor a guided tour of the Secretariat, raising hopes that the two had buried their differences. The Governor had also cleared the RTC merger bill.
With the latest development it seems like things are back to facelift.
In a strong reaction, ministers Vemula Prashanth Reddy and Allola Indrakaran Reddy lashed out at the Governor.
Prashanth Reddy said that Dr Soundararajan has lost the moral right to continue in the constitutional post. He demanded that the Governor tender her resignation.
Accusing her of converting Raj Bhavan into a 'political hub', he said that when she could become Governor while being state BJP president of Tamil Nadu, what was wrong in nominating Dr Sravan and Satyanarayana, who belong to the MBC (most backward classes) and Scheduled Castes communities, respectively. By rejecting their nominations, the Governor had insulted MBCs and SCs, he alleged.
Indrakaran Reddy said that the Governor's decision was against the spirit of federalism. He alleged that the Governor was deliberately creating trouble for the state government and functioning against the norms prescribed in the Constitution.
"We have not seen any Governor functioning like this before. It's not correct to use Raj Bhavan for hatching political conspiracies and for indulging in political witch-hunt," he said. Indrakaran Reddy alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre was misusing the Governor's office to trouble non-BJP governments in states.
